Talk:Tutorials and Source Code
From GPWiki
The wiki is now hosted by GameDev.NET at wiki.gamedev.net. All gpwiki.org content has been moved to the new server. However, the GPWiki forums are still active! Come say hello. I decided to fiddle with the formatting of this page... took out the extra horizontal lines, as I think they were making things more confusing. Also, added back the table of contents. What do you think? This page is one of the most important on the wiki, so it's vital that it be as unconfusing as possible! Ryan Clark 16:43, 8 Jun 2005 (EDT) I know the subcategories are in alphabetical order, but wouldn't it be more logical to place General {LanguageName} at the top of each section?
[edit] Why not use templates?Since each language has its own page with links to tutorials, this page has links to all of the tutorials, and some other pages might have links to tutorials for one language or another, why not save the hassle of updating each individual page and use templates? Then we can just add a call to the template for each page we want those links on, and just worry about updating the template. To keep from confusing people who go to edit their links in, we could add in a comment saying to edit the template rather than the page. I think this will not only help us keep all of the pages up to date, but also keep the styles consistent since just from looking at the the tutorials page, you'll be able to see if anything is strange-looking. We could be quite liberal with templates too, storing all big lists of links in templates. I really don't like having to click a link to get a page that takes up half of the screen just to find out what IDEs are available for a certain language. If those links were in a template, they could be displayed on the tutorial about how to start using Z++, Z++'s main page as well as the big list of programming tools. (Note: Z++ is just some language I made up to use as an example.) --Dial-Up 00:20, 21 Aug 2005 (EDT)
[edit] Removed non-english "Classic Moon" engineI'm sorry, but we have a policy of only referring to websites written in English, or at least understandable for people who are familiar with English. It would simply be much too confusing if we had loads of links to webpages written in languages that the average reader isn't familiar with. If you have some links to English pages about the "Classic Moon" engine, then please feel free to add them. Here's the section I removed from the "Tutorial and Source Code"-list: ==[[Classical Moon]]==

Regards, Sion 07:27, 26 November 2005 (EST) The interesting thing is that Classic Moon does not exist, and the links all refer to a site where you can buy domains. Seems to be yet another spam entry... - tobing [edit] Links deserving special treatmentWhy should these links get to reside on the tutorials main page? I'm moving them to the links page... |
