Game ideas: Aftershock
From GPWikiGenre: Open-ended Shooter with RPG elements. Premise: The world is healing from nuclear war yet a new threat emerges. Humans have discovered meteorites of unknown origin and they are starting to change people. Gameplay: You move as in a shooter. Core attributes like Strength, Dexterity and Constitution determine your ability to inflict damage, move fluidly and withstand wounds, while Soul increases your social ability. Intelligence is needed for a lot of things. All attributes and skills are invisible; they increase through application (e.g. hitting more people with a rifle increases Rifles while simply driving around increases Driving skill). However, when one levels up they may select "perks" of choice (such as Fastloader or Drug-resistant). Some combat encounters are random, while others are scripted. Eventually, you get the ability to recruit up to 5 AI-controlled party members, who you can then command with a keypad-based interface. Simple commands like "Ally 2 move to where I am pointing my cursor," or "Ally 4 attack the vehicle I am targeting," or "Ally 3 heal Ally 2" can be done by pressing "Tab" then navigating a simple text-menu. Language: The game is to be programmed in C, though I am still deciding on an IDE. Engine: Quake III Engine, modified to allow vehicles. 3d Modeler: Unconfirmed open-source toolkit, currently a toss-up between 3DFX and Anim8or. AI: Completely unknown as of yet though it will be heavily scripted except for combat. Sound: I own a synthesizer, and might work on some pieces for the game. Audacity will be used for editing. Platform: PC/Mac/Linux. If anyone is interested in this game, drop me a line. I cannot do this alone and need artists, AI programmers, and anyone capable of modding the Q3 Map Editor for the game. (Fallout FPS?) Would be cool. |
